COMPLETES UPGRADE OF SITA’S AIS
Monterey, California, USA, January 28, 2005.
Global Weather Dynamics, Inc. (GWDI) announces that the SITA
London Data Center has accepted the commissioning of GWDI’s
Aeronautical Information System (AIS).
The SITA London Data Center has been operating GWDI’s
AIS for over past 15 years. The system allows SITA to
provide information about NOTAM and weather data to its airlines
customers.
The latest version of the system is hosted on Intel-based
servers running the Linux OS and the MySQL RDBMS. The
system also includes a number of technological advancements
such as the support of the Extensible Markup Language (XML)
and the Extensible Stylesheet Language – Formatting
Objects (XSL-FO) standard. The design of the XML has
been modeled on the Eurocontrol format developed for the EAD
project.
“The ability to have the content and description of
the data encapsulated by XML enables the development of new
applications and features previously unavailable to SITA.
The system also includes a new user interface for the design
and management of Pre-Flight Information Bulletins layouts
using the Stylesheet language that enables SITA a more intuitive
way in which to design a customized PIB for each of our airlines
customers” said Ian Gray, Project Manager at SITA.
“SITA’s motivation in upgrading the system was
to incorporate a number of new functionalities and also to
reduce the Total-Cost-of-Ownership (TCO) of the system”
