GWDI
is selected by Airports Fiji Limited for supply of AFTN, AIS
and OPMET systems
Monterey Ca, U.S.A. January 5, 2001
GWDI of Monterey, California, USA announces the signature
of a contract with Airports Fiji Limited (AFL) for the provision
of an Automatic Message Switching System. The contract includes
the well-known GWDI Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network
(AFTN) Message Switch with an associated Operational Meteorological
(OPMET) System and a limited version of the company's Automated
Aeronautical Information System (AIS). The AIS system will
have an HTML web interface.
The systems will operate on two pairs of powerful 64-bit RISC
AlphaServer® computers from Compaq® Computer Corporation
connected in a "quad" architecture. A training version
of the system will also be provided. Factory testing is scheduled
in May 2001 and system delivery and installation are due to
commence in June at Nadi International Airport, Fiji Islands.
Additional equipment will be provided for installation at
Nausori Airport, Suva. A region-wide license for GWDI's Aeronautical
Information Terminal (AIT) will allow AFL to install AITs
at numerous sites within Fiji and give it the ability to provide
terminals to other countries within the region such as Kiribati,
Western Samoa, Tuvalu, Tonga, New Caledonia and Vanuatu. Use
of the AIT will allow AFL to use a router based Internet Protocol
(IP) network to communicate with their outstations, taking
advantage of state-of-the-art communications methods.
GWDI will provide AFL with a full turnkey system that includes
hardware, software, acceptance testing, installation, commissioning,
project management, documentation and training both in the
United States and Fiji. Ron Coulter, GWDI's Vice President
said "AFL conducted an extensive, in-depth evaluation
of our system before deciding to purchase it. They spoke to
our existing customers and travelled overseas to see the system
working operationally before coming to Monterey for final
negotiations." GWDI recently installed similar systems
in Guatemala and Uruguay.
