FIJI LIMITED (AFL) COMMISSIONS GWDI AERONAUTICAL COMMUNICATION
AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS
MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA, USA, November 29, 2001.
GWDI announces that Mr. Viliame Gonelevu, Chairman of Airport
Fiji Limited (AFL), has accepted the commissioning of a $2.06
million AFTN Message Switching System that provides airport
and airline related information.
Fiji is the only country in the region that has this particular
system and AFL’s Nadi International Airport is a designated
ICAO switching center in this region. This system enables
authorized users, such as airlines, to submit flight plans
through the Internet. The system installed at Nadi International
Airport includes GWDI’s Aeronautical Message System
(AMS), Aeronautical Information System (AIS) System, and Operational
Meteorology (OPMET). In addition, GWDI’s Aeronautical
Information Terminal (AIT) is installed at numerous sites
within Fiji, as well as nearby locations such as Kiribati,
Western Samoa, Tuvalu, Tonga, and Vanuatu.
"We have embarked on a program that will soon rank our
air traffic control operations among the most modern in the
world. This installation and commissioning is AFL’s
first step toward upgrading Nadi and Nausori Airports to ensure
that they meet international standards and expectations in
all facets of operations," said Mr. Gonelevu.
"AFL is making a solid commitment to upgrade their communication
and information systems to one of the most advanced systems
in the region, and the GWDI systems are critical components
in their plans", said Duncan Macdonald, GWDI Managing
Director.
