NAVIAIR
CONTRACTS GWDI FOR NEW EAD SYSTEM INTERFACE

GWDI announces that it has received a contract from Naviair
for the implementation of an interface to the European Aeronautical
Database (EAD) for the reception and distribution of Pre-flight
Information Bulletins (PIB).
Naviair has transitioned to the European AIS Database (EAD)
for the management of NOTAM, maintenance of static data, and
the preparation of PIB. However, the EAD does not support
clients through the AFTN/CIDIN infrastructure. Therefore,
a supporting system is necessary to allow the AIS users to
request and receive PIB prepared by EAD over the AFTN/CIDIN
system.
The EAD Interface will provide continued service to Naviair’s
clients who utilize the AFTN network for the receipt of Pre-flight
Information Bulletins (PIB) currently prepared by the Danish
Aeronautical Information System (DAIS).
The EAD System Interface will convert requests in a textual
format as used by DAIS to the XML-based formats used by EAD
and converts PIB and other response data from the XML format
generated by EAD back into a textual format suitable for the
AFTN network users.
The EAD System Interface will be hosted on a pair of Intel-based
computer servers running the Linux OS.
